The Chair of General and Inorganic Chemistry was established in 1962 as a part of the Institute of Chemistry-University of Novi Sad, which became a part of The Faculty of Sciences in 1976. The first professor who was teaching General and Inorganic Chemistry, the founder and the first Head of the Chair, was professor PhD Velimir Canić. The eminent professors who have worked in the last 40 years as the members of the Chair are: PhD Nada Perišić Janjić Profеssor Emeritus, PhD Mirjana Vojinović Miloradov Profеssor Emeritus, and PhD Vukadin Leovac Profеssor Emeritus.

The members of the Chair are mostly engaged in teaching basic courses at the first level of study at the Faculty of Sciences, as well as in teaching advanced courses at the postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Sciences.

Members of the Chair are engaged in the scientific research within the following areas: inorganic synthesis and coordination chemistry, chromatography and chemometrics, design and biological activity of novel nanoparticles and nanoformulations, biochemistry (antioxidative properties) of medicinal plants.
