The Chair of Organic Chemistry began its activity in the academic year 1962/63. From the very beginning, the Chair encompassed all organic chemistry courses and the related courses such as Natural Products and Biochemistry. In 1978, from the cradle of the Chair of Organic Chemistry came out the new Chair of Biochemistry.

At the Chair of Organic Chemistry, teaching activities are carried out through a series of obligatory and elective courses at the undergraduate, master and doctoral studies for students of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Environmental Protection. Some teachers of the Chair are involved in the teaching process at other institutions of the University of Novi Sad.

Scientific Research of the Chair is in the field of organic synthesis and medical chemistry. The research groups have so far participated in the realization of a large number of research projects, including three international projects, two IPA and one project of the European Economic Community. Cooperation with experts from abroad is carried out through joint projects and activities with a number of institutions from Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Belarus. At the national level, the group has developed cooperation with academic institutions within the University of Novi Sad, Belgrade and Niš.

Members of the Chair are two full professors, associate professor, six assistant professors, research associate, two research assistants, junior researcher and five senior technicians.
