Research focus
Two former professors Dr Dušan Miljković and Dr Jovan Hranisavljević have created this scientific research group at the seventies of the last century at the Institute of Chemistry. Originally, the scientific research was focused on the isolation of cholic and hyocholic acid from naturally affordable row materials (beef and pork bile), as well as the transformation of the most prevalent bile acids into other derivatives with promising pharmaceutical use (for example, the synthesis of chenodeoxycholic acid from cholic acid). In those years, intensive and fruitful cooperation was established with researchers from Galenika Pharmaceuticals in Belgrade and Faculty of Medicine in Novi Sad. More recently, the research leaders are professors Dr Marija Sakač, Dr Janoš Čanadi and Dr Mihalj Poša. The topic of today’s research is related to synthesis of bile acid derivatives and testing of their micellar properties. For these physical and chemical tests, the modern instrumental methods are used (NMR spectroscopy, FTIR, fluorescence spectrometry, microcalorimetry, Langmuir scale). Good cooperation has been established with the professors of the University of Szeged and Debrecen through one IPA project.
